Guidelines
The recommendation letter is one of the most important components of the application because it helps us gain an outlook outside of the student's perspective. Your recommendation will hold much weight. Please be objective and truthful. Your input will help us better allocate scholarship funds to students with the most merit.
In your letter, you should cover the following:
- Relationship to You: Explain your relationship to the student
- Overall Merit: Explain why this student merits a scholarship
- Examples: Give concrete examples of the students abilities and talents
- Activities: Describe in detail extracurricular academic activities that set the student apart
- Leadership: Describe in detail leadership achievements that set the student apart
- Academics: Describe in detail examples of classroom behavior or work ethic
- Misc: Include anything else you think may help the Selection Committee make a decision
Important: If you are a relative, spouse, classroom friend or employee of the applicant, your recommendation will severely impair the student's application for scholarships. Recommendations in English are preferred, but not required.
